Blooming Refuge (Original Painting)

Depth: 1.5 inches
Painted on stretched canvasReady to hang
Blooming Refuge explores the return to a more instinctual self, where identity is no longer defined by external constructs, but by a quiet unity with nature. The subject is stripped bare, not in vulnerability alone, but in truth… existing without barrier, without pretense.
Her clothing becomes the world around her... The enveloping florals acting as both shelter and extension. The leaves and petals do not conceal her, but integrate her, suggesting a dissolving of separation between body and environment. She is not placed within nature… she is of it.
The birds act as subtle emotional echoes... fleeting, varied, and alive. Each one suggests a different internal state: curiosity, restlessness, calm, longing. They orbit her presence without anchoring to it, much like emotions themselves, passing through, never fully possessed.
The work asks whether refuge is something we seek externally… or something we remember within.
She blooms where she stands,
rooted in breath and quiet awareness.
Soft wings flicker through passing feeling,
never staying, never defining.
In shedding what once covered her,
she becomes a place she can finally rest.
