About the art:A reimagining of the classic portrait by Italian painter, Amedeo Modigliani.
Amedeo Modigliani is often associated with the quote regarding his portraiture, "When I know your soul, I will paint your eyes". While not directly documented for every painting, this philosophy suggests his 1916/1918 painting Christina represents his profound understanding of her inner spirit, often characterized by a quiet, stylized elegance rather than literal realism.
Soul vs. Sight: Modigliani often omitted pupils in his portraits, focusing instead on capturing the subject's inner life or "soul," with the eyes acting as a window to that essence.
Style and Mood: The portrait of Christina is noted for its elongated, mask-like features, reflecting a calm, introspective mood rather than a direct, realistic depiction.
Uncertainty of Quote: While frequently cited in connection to his work, some art historians note there is no definitive documentation confirming he said this exact phrase.
